The Australian electric vehicle landscape has just welcomed its most unconventional arrival yet. The 2026 Deepal E07 has officially launched down under, introducing a brand-new category to the market: the ‘Multitruck’. Blending the luxury and driving dynamics of a large SUV with the utility of a dual-cab ute, this segment-bending electric vehicle is already making waves, having recently claimed the title of CarExpert’s 2026 Best EV Large SUV.

Priced from $64,900 before on-road costs, the Deepal E07 is positioned as a premium offering that challenges traditional definitions. With its striking design, 800-volt ultra-fast charging architecture, and a highly versatile cargo area, the E07 aims to appeal to Australian buyers who want the refinement of a family SUV combined with the practicality required for weekend adventures.

Australian pricing and variants

Deepal has launched the E07 in Australia with a straightforward two-variant lineup, catering to different performance requirements while maintaining a high level of standard equipment across the board.

VariantPrice (before on-roads)PowertrainRange (WLTP)
Deepal E07 RWD$64,900Single motor (252kW)550km
Deepal E07 AWD Performance$73,900Dual motor (440kW)510km

The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model is expected to translate to a drive-away price of approximately $68,000 depending on the state, making it a compelling alternative to established electric SUVs like the newly launched BYD Sealion 7 or the XPeng G6. Buyers can choose from four standard exterior colours, with the AWD Performance variant exclusively offering a striking Spessartite Orange option. A premium orange interior trim is also available for an additional $500.

The Multitruck cargo system

The defining feature of the Deepal E07 is its transformable rear section. At first glance, it presents as a sleek coupe-style SUV. However, the rear glass dome can slide forward electronically, exposing a durable cargo tray. Combined with a drop-down tailgate, this effectively turns the vehicle into a utility truck.

The versatility extends into the cabin. The rear seats can fold completely flat, opening up a massive 1,654 litres of cargo space that connects directly to the rear tray. Even with the dome closed and seats up, the boot offers a respectable 524 litres, supplemented by a 131-litre frunk under the bonnet. While it may not replace a dedicated workhorse ute due to its 610kg payload limit and 1,500kg braked towing capacity, it provides more than enough utility for camping gear, surfboards, or trips to the hardware store.

Performance and ultra-fast charging

Both variants of the E07 are powered by an 89.98kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery pack. The RWD model delivers a healthy 252kW of power and 365Nm of torque, completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds while offering the maximum 550km WLTP range.

For those seeking exhilarating performance, the AWD variant adds a front motor to produce a combined 440kW and 645Nm. This drops the 0-100km/h time to a blistering 3.96 seconds, though the range dips slightly to 510km.

Crucially, the E07 is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture. This allows for a maximum DC charging rate of 240kW, meaning the battery can be replenished from 30 to 80 per cent in just 15 minutes at a compatible ultra-fast charging station. It also features robust 6.6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, perfect for powering campsites or tools directly from the car.

A premium, tech-focused cabin

Inside, the Deepal E07 feels decidedly premium, leaning heavily into a minimalist aesthetic. Physical buttons have been almost entirely eliminated, with functions controlled either via the central touchscreen or the controls retained on the steering wheel.

The minimalist interior features premium materials and a massive central display.

The dashboard is dominated by a massive 15.4-inch touchscreen powered by a high-end Qualcomm 8155 processor, ensuring swift and responsive operation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, alongside an immersive 18-speaker sound system. The driver is treated to an augmented reality head-up display in place of a traditional instrument cluster.

Comfort is a clear priority. The front seats offer eight-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Unusually for this price point, the rear seats also feature power recline, heating, ventilation, and massage capabilities, ensuring all passengers travel in luxury.

Safety and warranty

The E07 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and a high-resolution 360-degree camera system. Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist rounds out the highway driving aids.

Deepal backs the E07 with a competitive seven-year or 160,000km vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 240,000km. The brand also offers capped-price servicing for seven years or 140,000km, with intervals set at a convenient 20,000km or 12 months.

With its unique blend of SUV luxury and ute-like practicality, the Deepal E07 represents a bold new direction for the Australian electric vehicle market. It will be fascinating to see how local buyers respond to this innovative ‘Multitruck’ concept.
