The highly anticipated XPeng L03 has been spotted testing in Sydney, confirming that the tech-driven electric vehicle maker is bringing its affordable, coupe-styled SUV to Australia. Positioned to shake up the mid-size electric SUV market, the 2026 XPeng L03 promises sleek aerodynamics, an impressive driving range, and flagship autonomous driving technology—all at a price point expected to start around $45,000 before on-road costs. Following the success of the XPeng G6, the L03 aims to deliver premium features and cutting-edge software to the mass market. With a global launch scheduled for mid-2026 and Australian deliveries expected to follow shortly after, the L03 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new EV launches of the year.

Australian pricing and market positioning

While XPeng Australia has not yet released official local pricing, industry estimates suggest the L03 will start at approximately $45,000 before on-road costs. This aggressive pricing strategy places it in direct competition with the Geely EX5 and the BYD Atto 3. In its domestic market, the vehicle is known as the Mona L03, but it is expected to drop the ‘Mona’ prefix for its Australian release. As part of XPeng’s broader expansion strategy, the L03 is designed to offer exceptional value by including high-end technology as standard equipment across the range.

Battery, range and performance

The XPeng L03 will be offered as a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), built on a 400-volt architecture. Buyers are expected to have a choice between two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs: a 56kWh option and a larger 71kWh unit. The larger battery is anticipated to deliver a WLTP driving range of up to 520km, making it highly competitive for long-distance travel. Power is delivered by a single 183kW electric motor, enabling a brisk 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.5 seconds. When it comes to charging, the L03 supports DC fast charging with an average rate of 149kW, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in roughly 20 minutes.

Free autonomous driving technology

One of the most compelling selling points of the XPeng L03 is its advanced driver assistance system. The vehicle comes standard with XPeng’s in-house developed Turing AI chip and the Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) self-driving system. Unlike some competitors that charge ongoing subscription fees for advanced autonomy, XPeng has confirmed that the VLA 2.0 system will be rolled out to Australian owners in 2027 at no additional cost. This camera-based system offers capabilities that rival the best in the market, providing significant long-term value for buyers.

Design and premium cabin features

Penned by a former Ferrari exterior designer, the L03 features a striking fastback silhouette with a remarkably low drag coefficient of just 0.228 Cd. The exterior is highlighted by T-shaped headlights, frameless doors, and an active front air intake. Inside, the minimalist cabin is dominated by a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen and a massive 26.8-inch head-up display. Comfort is a priority, with the vehicle expected to feature heated, cooled, and massaging front seats, a 20-speaker AI audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. Practicality is also well-addressed, offering 539 litres of rear boot space, expandable to 1,640 litres with the seats folded, plus a handy 102-litre front trunk.
