As an online business, evee is committed to ensuring our renters and hosts feel safe and secure when hiring a car or renting out their own car.
Highly trusted payments platform Stripe is integrated into the evee website. Stripe is used by some of the largest and most innovative online platforms in the world. After seeing they launched a new feature Stripe Identity, we added it into our booking process in May 2022.
What is Stripe Identity and why do we use it?
Put simply, Stripe Identity is an identity verification system, and is used as a means of reducing fraud, preventing account takeovers and stopping scammers and bad actors.
This is essential to us as an electric car-sharing business. Traditionally your identity and licence are checked when picking up a rental car at a physical location – airport or city office. As a fully online platform we don’t have physical locations so we rely on a fully online experience.
Stripe Identity helps us improve our verification and authentication processes and increases our customers trust and sense of safety.
How does it work?
The verification flow is fully hosted by Stripe and the user wanting to book a car will be prompted to upload:
- a copy of their in-date Drivers Licence
- a live selfie
A Machine Learning Program then matches the ID to other third-party records to confirm or deny the identity.
How long does it take?
The entire verification process for an individual user can be completed in as little as 15 seconds.
Where does the information go?
The information collected is encrypted and sent directly to Stripe, so we as an individual business don’t manage the sensitive and personal information provided.
